Gutteridge defends his position on collecting subscription amounts by implying that the 100 dollar amounts gradually often turn into thousands. He acknowledges the concerns that Davidson makes however, he emphasizes that until the Trustees can come to some kind of consensus he will proceed to collect subscriptions in this manner.

Also informs Davidson that he will be receiving a donation check in the mail, and mentions other promises he has gotten for contributions to the University. Spends much of the letter discussing a conference that he spoke at, and what was discussed at the conference, including whether or not there was sufficient money for American University to open.
